Content Strategy

Learner for Life

Demographics

There really isn't a cut-off age to learning nor are there any limitations such as race, religion, or sex: learning is for everyone! What is interesting is looking at what limitations people put on their own learning. Whether it's because they are content with their place in life or because of other factors, people think that they do not need to continue to learn and we can see this in the data.

74% of adults in America have taken the time to learn something new between 2014 and 2015.
63% of American workers (36% of all adults) whom work full or part-time has taken an additional class or extra training.

Learning is beneficial!

Interestingly enough, government workers and educators are the most likely people to pursue knowledge as professional learners.

Learners are of all ages, but for this campaign I would like to focus on impressing life-long learning as a way of life on my high school seniors or those who have recently graduated in the ages of 18-29 as these are the one who are still trying to find their way around "adulting" (a very fun word to play with). To get their attention, I will have to advocate for continued education through the social media venues that they frequent which are: Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, and for some Pinterest. I wouldn't use Linkedln because there are not that many young adults that utilize this service.

Competition

Not really sure who I would be competing against being  that the more young adults are steered towards continued learning, the better it is for them. Now if I wanted to push them into a college, then I would have some competition from military recruiters, inciting job opportunities, and the lure of just staying at home living off mommy and daddy.

There is a strong campaign by the military to attract new recruits and they use such services such as Facebook, Fliker, Twitter and Youtube. The Army has been using social media as a recruiting tool since 2011 and before that they developed a video game that was distributed for free over the internet as a first-person shooter combat simulator (I downloaded it and tried it out for fun).

Various jobs are using social media to promote employment opportunities as well as their own websites and other job offering sites such as Monster, Craigslist, etc.

Another competitor would be the temptation to misbehave and fall into the wrong crowd. Examples of this is found all over social media as well as on every source of media out there. Trying to keep young adults educated as positive contributors to society is an on-going challenge.

Finding me!
To help promote my campaign, I will have to post to various social media sites each day to direct people to my blog posts. This means spreading the word on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and even Snapchat.

People will be able to find my campaign under these hashtags (I hope)
#lyflonglearner
#learner4lyf
#iko3k
#ics119

As for photos, I'm not that much of a selfie person, so I will use the limited pictures that I have taken.

Articles, Infographic, and Discussions

I've found quite a bit of information already in regards to the benefits of continued education. I will incorporate those as well as others and Infographics into my blogs  As far as discussion, I will have to do a better job at that. I haven't been too consistent with replying to our class discussion which I will have to be more cognizant about during the campaign.

For my posts, I would like to post more pictures of my student's work as well as more infographics to add a bit of information to the pictures.
