Define
your objective.
I want to people to know me for the educator that I am.
My goal in life is be learning and education. I want to learn as much as I can to stay ahead of the game. I want to learn to exercise my mind. I want to learn to stay in step with the world instead of letting it speed on by! I want to impress upon my students the importance of being a life-long learner and that there are numerous rewards with little penalties. I want to share with students how much fun one gains from increasing one’s knowledge, how much of the world is opened up to them and how much more they can protect once they know the truth and history behind things.

I’m an advocate for Career and Technology Education
I have been a life-long
learner of education while working as a teacher.
I have taught in elementary classes, middle school electronics classes,
and numerous high school technology and business classes. I have always
had a love for hands-on projects and is one of the main reasons I went
into teaching vocational/industrial/technology courses. I want to share
my passion with the younger generations and work with them to let them
know that they can learn valuable skills to create wonders with technology
as well as with their hands.

I liked this outlook from
an article “Lifelong Learning No Longer Option.”
It reads something to the fact that businesses and technology are constantly
changing and continue to advance at a rapid rate, as well as the value of a
college degree. Today, a college degree will help new graduates enter the
workforce…OF TODAY. Just earning a degree is no longer sufficient for long
-term career success. A few years after being hired, these same graduates
will need to embrace lifelong learning to remain marketable in mostly every
area of their career field. Lifelong learning benefits just about any
organization, school, or company as well as its employees. Employees receive
the opportunity to expand their career opportunities, boost their earnings,
and become more intellectually engaged. The employer gets employees better
able to meet the needs of a constantly shifting marketplace.

Interesting article to examine by Edudemic:
"Teachers who adopt a lifelong learning mindset have access to information and use it to collaborate with others. Learning teachers also view mistakes and challenges as a part of the learning process rather than as failures.”

Hi Mike,

How do you get your students to want to learn?
Thanks,
Greg
Mahalo Greg!
DeleteI was struggling with this for a couple of days and it irritated me so much that I finally just posted my Blog with the worst format ever.
I try to get my students interested in what I'm teaching and make it relevant for their lives. If I can get them to make the connection to their future, they could transfer the knowledge and skills I'm teaching them to their needs.
Thank you Renee!
ReplyDeleteThe thing that sparked me was making sure that I could prepare my students for college and prepare them to be successful. There's also that little bonus of teacher pay increase :-) Once I reach the top, I will continue to take classes to improve myself and keep up with the world....
Hi Mike,
ReplyDeleteThis was an interesting read and thanks for sharing how it shaped and helped get to where you are now. That's really awesome. My elders always tell me the same thing to keep learning to exercise your brain, its the most best thing I can do. I'll admit its really hard to really devote to that sometimes with everyday chaos. So how do you keep up or like how do you decide what to learn to keep exercising your brain? Is there anything else besides technology?
Wow! This was a great read and you sure have a lot of experience revolving around your topic. Would you say you love teaching because your get to be a lifelong learner AND pass your knowledge forward? Do you have a favorite learning moment, like when something just clicked? Or have you seen this in the students you teach? Thanks! - No'eau
