What is truth and what is CRAPP?
How can we tell whether or not the information we receive on the internet is factual or biased?
Too late...I already researched my articles the hard way by sifting through all of the Facebook comments and game requests to find these 12 articles that were posted.
4 Pretty reliable information
- In this article, a Caucasian woman talks about being raised during the 70s with twin African-American and Mexican-American boys. This heart warming article appears right and does not seem to have an agenda.
- The second article I saw being passed around discussed Pres. Trump's speech and praised his recognition of the U.S. Naval widow. This was reported by Tribumist, an online reporting site. I say this article was reliable for reporting the facts of the speech and not deviating from the story of Mrs. Owens.
- The third article was discussing how according to Pres. Trumps new immigration laws, his own wife, the First Lady, would have been deported. This information is presented by Harper's Bazaar Media and the information provided are citing sources.
- The forth article I found discussed how medicare wants to cut mandatory maternity coverage. I found this to be interesting as a possible future as the reporting site gathers its information from reliable sources and prides themselves as being dedicated to bringing their audience honest portraits of the futures, so they can be better informed in their decision-making today.
4 Somewhat reliable information
Now comes the fun stuff. How reliable can things be?
- My first article talks about the German carnival floats that really bash Pres. Trump. This European company that runs this site seems credible and "Our entertaining blend of daily news, business and features has made The Local the largest English-language news network in Europe with five million readers every month."
- The second article I found was a about a Kaimuki Haunted house and the stories behind it. I don't know how much of this is reliable as the authors of this site say they are taking an informal approach to helping readers discover things to do in each state.
- The third article comes from Norway and it claims that Norway did not violate the human rights of a neo-Nazi serving time in prison.
- The forth "what ever" article circles back to our loving education leader, Betty DeVos. Here, the writers report that DeVos is backing off her claims that black colleges are 'pioneers' of school choice. I say this is a "MEH" site because the website, thehill.com is typically a left-centered entity and is a little biased.
4 Biased or Unreliable information
Now for the fun stuff!
- My first article comes from a reputable online source washingtonpost.com. I am placing their story that Pres. Trump's handling of widow Mrs. Owens as being contemptibly cynical. This goes in my CRAPP pile as it is an opinion piece, thus truly biased.
- My second article discusses how Pres. Trump had found Jesus Christ! This article is hosted by online company Chrisma News and is ranked as being moderate conspiracy and pseudoscience. This article is crediting its source as an evangelical leader who was at a meeting then presidential nominee-in-waiting.
- The third article was discussing Betsy DeVos and her statement about black colleges. I think the credibility of this feminist site is biased, but I do think that's kinda of neat because the reporting site is actually not trying to make excuses for DeVos.
- My last POS article has to do with the myth that has been going all over the internet regarding our beloved chicken nuggets saying that the chicken nugget we eat are not 100% chicken. Written in the online Newsy.com site that is known to be factual, but utilizes loaded words (attempting to influence an audience) for liberal causes.
No one messes with my nuggets!
